Tony Grimaldi Design is a luxury outdoor design studio based in Hobe Sound, Florida, specializing in high-end residential properties throughout Palm Beach County and surrounding premier coastal communities.
Our design work takes place in some of the most prestigious residential areas in South Florida, including:

Projects frequently involve large custom homes, luxury waterfront estates, and private golf course residences, making the work both technically detailed and creatively rewarding.
Our studio focuses on designing sophisticated outdoor environments including:
Landscape design
Hardscape design
Irrigation design
Outdoor landscape lighting plans
Because of a steady and growing workload, we are seeking a highly capable CAD designer with strong AutoCAD skills and 3D modeling ability to assist with preparing technical drawings and base plans for luxury outdoor design projects.
Position Overview
This role is ideal for someone who is technically strong, highly organized, and experienced preparing landscape or site-related drawings.
You will work directly with Tony Grimaldi to translate design concepts into accurate base plans and construction drawings for luxury outdoor environments.
A key responsibility of this role is building base plans by combining survey information with architectural site plans, ensuring each project begins with an accurate and coordinated drawing.
Experience with SketchUp, Structure Studios, or other 3D modeling tools is highly valued, as some projects may include modeling or visualization support.
This is a remote opportunity.
Candidates based in the United States are preferred, but candidates outside the U.S. may also be considered if they have strong English communication skills and experience working with U.S. drawings and design standards.
Design Workflow & Communication
Because this is a remote collaboration, clear communication and organized revisions are extremely important.
Tony Grimaldi Design follows a workflow similar to architecture and engineering studios.
Design revisions are typically communicated through PDF markups using Adobe Acrobat, allowing clear visual instructions directly on the drawings.
You will receive both:
Construction drawing PDFs with revision notes
Conceptual hand sketches and colored design sketches created by Tony Grimaldi
These conceptual sketches are also clearly marked up using Adobe Acrobat, showing how design ideas should be translated into AutoCAD drawings.
Revisions typically include:
Circles and arrows on PDF drawings
Written notes directly on the plans
Clear visual callouts showing required changes
The CAD designer reviews the markups, updates the drawings, and returns revisions for review.
This system allows for fast, efficient collaboration and minimal confusion during revisions.
Technology & AI Tools
Tony Grimaldi Design embraces modern technology and emerging AI tools to improve workflow efficiency.
AI tools are commonly used in the studio for:
Drafting written communication
Reviewing drawings
Improving workflow organization
Supporting productivity in the design process
Candidates do not need to be AI experts, but the ideal person is someone who is curious about new tools and comfortable learning technologies that improve workflow efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and modify AutoCAD drawings for landscape and hardscape plans
Create accurate base plans using survey information and architectural site plans
Translate conceptual sketches into organized AutoCAD drawings
Prepare site plans and construction drawings for residential landscape projects
Verify alignment between survey data and architectural drawings
Prepare drawings for landscape design, hardscape design, irrigation design, and outdoor lighting plans
Maintain organized layers, templates, and drawing standards
Implement revisions based on PDF markups
Communicate professionally regarding drawing questions
Requirements
Required Skills
Strong candidates will have experience with many of the following:
AutoCAD drafting
Landscape architecture drawings
Site plan preparation
Construction drawings
CAD drafting standards and layer management
SketchUp or Structure Studios
Understanding of survey and architectural base plan coordination
Experience working on high-end residential design projects is a strong plus.
Compensation & Performance Progression
Compensation is based on experience, efficiency, and ability to work independently.
All new collaborators begin at the Senior CAD Technician level during the initial onboarding period.
After approximately 30 days of collaboration, performance will be reviewed based on:
Drawing quality
Organization and accuracy
Efficiency and turnaround time
Ability to interpret revisions
Communication and reliability
Technicians who demonstrate advanced technical ability and minimal revision requirements may be advanced to the Technical Project Partner level, with increased compensation.
Growth & Workflow Development
New collaborations typically develop in stages.
During the first week, the focus is on learning the workflow, drawing standards, and communication process. We usually begin with one project or a small group of revisions.
During the second week, familiarity increases and additional drawings are introduced.
By the third and fourth weeks, the goal is for the designer to feel comfortable working efficiently within the system.
Over time, successful collaborators often work on multiple projects simultaneously, becoming an important part of a growing portfolio of luxury residential designs.
Senior CAD Technician
$35 – $40 per hour
Responsibilities:
Strong AutoCAD drafting ability
Interpret design markups accurately
Prepare base plans from surveys and architectural drawings
Produce clean and organized drawings
Maintain layer standards and drawing organization
Reliable communication
Preferred experience with SketchUp or Structure Studios.
Advanced CAD Designer / Technical Project Partner
$45 – $55+ per hour
Responsibilities:
Advanced AutoCAD drafting ability
Interpret design intent with minimal explanation
Build accurate base plans from survey and architectural drawings
Anticipate coordination issues within plans
Produce highly organized drawings with minimal revisions
Communicate like a technical project manager
Suggest improvements when appropriate
Strong experience with SketchUp, Structure Studios, or other 3D modeling tools is highly valued.
This level functions almost like a technical design partner, helping projects move forward efficiently with minimal oversight.
Independent Contractor Structure
This position is structured as an independent contractor role (1099).
The selected candidate will operate as a self-employed professional providing drafting services remotely.
