Position Summary
HCI College seeks a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Biomedical Engineering Technology to lead the development of our new Medical Engineering Technology program. The consultant will be responsible for designing a market-aligned curriculum (AS and Diploma levels), specifying lab equipment requirements, and ensuring all content meets the rigorous standards of ACCSC and AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
Primary Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Design a 10-month Diploma and a 24-month Associate of Science (AS) curriculum, including course descriptions, student learning outcomes (SLOs), and clock-to-credit hour mappings.
Equipment Strategy: Provide a comprehensive "Master Equipment List" for a modest yet high-quality lab, including diagnostic tools (Safety Analyzers, Patient Simulators) and medical assets (IV Pumps, Defibrillators, Patient Monitors).
Accreditation Alignment: Ensure the program structure meets ACCSC standards and aligns with the ABET (Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission) criteria for future programmatic accreditation.
Industry Certification Mapping: Integrate content specifically designed to prepare students for the CABT (Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology) and CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) exams.
Advisory Board Support: Assist in identifying and recruiting local South Florida healthcare leaders for the Program Advisory Committee (PAC).
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field is highly preferred.
Certification: Current CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or CCE (Certified Clinical Engineer) designation is required.
Industry Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in Biomedical Equipment Management, either in a hospital (HTM department) or with a major manufacturer (e.g., GE, Philips, Siemens).
Academic Experience: Prior experience in curriculum design or as a Program Director/Lead Instructor for an accredited BMET or ASMET program.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with NFPA 99, CMS, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards regarding medical equipment.
