Position Summary:
The salary range for this position is $67,716.00 to $82,512.00 annually. The Research Data Analyst is an 18-month, non-permanent appointment. This position is approved to work fully remotely. Candidates for this position must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Washington State. This position reports to the Dean of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and requires regular and consistent attendance.

The Research Data Analyst is a key member of the Institutional Research team, contributing to the College's data and research efforts. The department supports the college’s mission and commitment to student belonging, learning, and thriving by providing quality, accessible, reliable, and relevant information to facilitate decision-making and planning processes, enhance institutional effectiveness, and support an institutional climate of evidence-based inquiry.
Reporting to the Dean of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Research Data Analyst collaborates with Business Systems Analysts, Web Services, and other stakeholders to enhance data accessibility within the institution, ensuring accurate and efficient delivery of information. The Research Data Analyst develops interactive data visualizations, dashboards, and reports, that translate complex datasets into actionable information for the institution.

Requirements
Essential Functions:
Data Management and Visualization
- Query data in a complex, multi-table database using SQL.
- Assure data quality and integrity.
- Build, test, and fully implement clear and accessible data visualizations for the college.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries associated with the college’s data reporting and visualizations.
Data Governance and Data Integrity
- Assist in training on the use of data visualizations produced by the Institutional Research Department.
- Provide consultation and data support as directed by the Dean of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.
Strategic Analysis and Collaboration
- Interpret data and offer recommendations to the Dean of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with various departments to identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting.
- Report on institutional performance indicators and grant metrics.
- Foster a culture of inquiry, improvement, and evidence-based decision-making.
Required Education:
- Associates Degree from an accredited college or equivalent work experience in data analytics, data science, computer science, or information technology.
- Education to Experience Equivalences: Associates Degree = 2 years | Bachelors Degree = 4 years | Masters Degree = 5 years
Required Experience:
- Demonstrated experience with database software and analytical tools, such as SQL, Power BI or related program, and how to use these tools to manage, move and summarize data.
- Demonstrated experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups at various stages of data fluency.

- Scenario: You have two tables: Transcripts(StudentID, Term, CourseName, CourseID, CourseCreditsEarned) and Student_Groups(StudentID, Term, GroupCode). Each student belongs to one of three family status GroupCodes in a given term: 'SING' (single parent students), 'PART' (parenting students in a relationship) or 'NONE' (students with no dependents).
- Task: Write a SQL query to identify if students have completed a total of 12 or more credits across the following three terms: 'Fall 2024', 'Winter 2025', and 'Spring 2025'. The output should include: StudentID, the student’s most current FamilyStatus (from Student_Groups), and the student’s CompletionStatus (indicating if the student completed 12-credits in three terms).
