Volunteer Job Description: Board Member
Organization: Collectibles 4 Causes
Position Type: Volunteer (Uncompensated)
Reports To: Board Chair
Term Length: 1 year- renewable
Position Summary
The Board Member is a fiduciary volunteer role responsible for providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by the Executive Director (ED), the board-ED relationship is a partnership. Board members ensure the organization’s mission, legal compliance, and financial sustainability.
Core Responsibilities (The 3 Duties)
Duty of Care: Actively prepare for, attend, and participate in board meetings.
Duty of Loyalty: Put the interests of the non-profit above personal or professional gain, avoiding conflicts of interest.
Duty of Obedience: Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and adhere to organizational bylaws.
Key Duties and Expectations
1. Strategic Governance & Oversight
Serve as a trusted advisor to the ED in developing and implementing the strategic plan.
Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions.
Review outcomes and metrics to evaluate the organization's impact and effectiveness.
Participate in hiring, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director.
2. Financial Sustainability & Philanthropy
Leverage personal networks to identify and secure funding, partnerships, and resources.
Actively participate in fundraising activities and events.
3. Ambassadorship & Community Representation
Act as an ambassador and advocate for the organization in the community.
Stay informed about the community needs the organization serves.
4. Committee Participation
Serve on at least one committee or task force, attending all corresponding meetings.
Qualifications
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Collectibles 4 Causes.
Background in [e.g., Finance, Law, HR, Fundraising, Marketing] is preferred.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Experience in nonprofit governance is a plus.
Time Commitment
Attend quarterly board meetings.
Estimated 3-5 hours per month, including meeting preparation and committee work.
Attend signature fundraising events.
