Requirements
Ideal Profile: You are a high school English teacher and published or aspiring writer who enjoys working with teenagers. You’re also a phenomenal editor. Although you may not have guided students and parents through the college admissions process, you are a quick study, interested in higher education, and eager to learn how to help enhance students’ chances of admission and scholarships to selective colleges. You learn new tech platforms easily, are well organized, conscientious, and meticulous. Experience with college essays is a plus.
Basic Requirements: You have taught high school English for at least one year.In addition to experience in teaching writing to high school students, you are highly skilled at time management and very organized. You are an outstanding editor and proofreader, and also have strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for guiding young people. Learning new tech is easy for you. We use a few platforms for scheduling meetings and tracking applications as well as Google docs, Google sheets, and our proprietary AI tools. We expect you to learn to use them quickly. Finally, the position is remote, so high speed internet is a must.
Note: If you currently are or have been an independent educational consultant in the past, please do not apply. We are looking to train English teachers and writers to join our team.
Availability: We will need you to have at least 3 weekday afternoons/evenings free from 5:30-8:30pm Eastern, as well as some morning and afternoon slots available on weekends, and some Sunday evening slots. Then you can set up an individual date/time override for commitments that come up, but this is the majority of what your availability needs to look like.
Training: Advisors/essay coaches will be trained on the job from day one with a robust support system.
Compensation: $4,000 per student applying to 10-12 colleges (while in training, $3,000, which is generally for your first 1-2 students). This entails an average 2 essays of 200 words each per college (1-5 essays per college, ranging from 50-650 words each). Additionally, college application support. Roughly 2-10+ students per advisor (you can eventually choose as many or as few as you want, but for first time advisors we will have you start with just a few).
3-Phase Hiring Process: resume + cover letter with 3 references (email and phone number for each), online writing exercise, online interview.
