Epidemiology, Evaluation and Metrics Team Intern #I26-0001

Who are we?
The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) is a national resource, partner, and advocate for state public health leaders who work and support state maternal and child health programs and others working to improve the health of women, children, youth, families, and communities.

We build successful programs by disseminating best practices, advocating on behalf of our members in Washington, DC, providing technical assistance, convening leaders to share experiences and ideas, and advising states to reach our common goal of healthy children, healthy families, and healthy communities.

About the position:
AMCHP is recruiting an Epidemiology, Evaluation and Metrics (EEM) team intern for the Summer of 2026. This is a paid part-time position that requires a minimum of 15 hours per week. AMCHP’s internship program is open to currently enrolled students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Individuals who have recently graduated are also eligible. Candidates with experience in maternal and child health (MCH) epidemiology and program evaluation initiatives are preferred.

Our program is also designed to allow interns to gain practical work experience; provide opportunities for interns to explore their strengths and interests more fully; and provide AMCHP an opportunity to become involved in the preparation of future public health professionals.

Requirements

What you’ll get to do:
Work collaboratively with the EEM team on a range of projects and initiatives. Potential activities may include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute to the design and implementation of surveys, assessments, and data collection tools
• Conduct literature scans and environmental scans to identify best practices in MCH epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation
• Support the development of data briefs, reports, and translational products for diverse audiences (e.g., Title V MCH programs, partners, policymakers)
• Contribute to projects focused on data-to-action and cross-sector partnerships, including housing, food security, or other environmental and social factors
• Support development of tools and resources that strengthen MCH data capacity, surveillance practices, and use of data for decision-making
• Participate in internal and external meetings, learning opportunities, and team discussions
• Perform related duties as assigned

You’ll bring these qualifications:
Knowledge:
 

• Foundational knowledge of public health, epidemiology, or program evaluation principles
• Knowledge and understanding of maternal and child health (preferred)
• Familiarity with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods (preferred)

Skills:
   

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including ability to interpret and synthesize data and information
• Experience with or willingness to learn survey and data tools/software (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, REDCap, Excel, Stata, SAS or other analysis software)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing skills

Abilities:

• Self-motivated and ability to organize and manage multiple tasks/projects
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote/ telework environment
• Ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights
• A steadfast commitment to AMCHP's core values

Other: AMCHP’s office is located in Washington, DC, and this position has the option of 100% virtual work/telework.

Estimated Internship Duration:
Start Date: Beginning of June 2026
End Date: Approximately 12 weeks from start (late August 2026)

Hours/Compensation: 15-20 hours per week. Hourly rate range: $20 - $25 per hour (exact dates/times can be negotiated). Note: Benefits are not provided.
